About R&M Elite Dog Training

Helping Owners Build Calm, Reliable Dogs

My name is Matthew, founder of R&M Elite Dog Training. I am a dog trainer who specialises in helping owners overcome behavioural challenges and develop reliable obedience through structured, practical training.

For many people, life with their dog doesn’t always look the way they imagined. Walks become stressful, behaviour problems feel overwhelming, and communication between dog and owner breaks down.

My goal is to help owners regain confidence, rebuild that communication, and create a calm, structured relationship that allows both dog and owner to thrive.

My Experience

I have been working with dogs since 2017, beginning with volunteering and working with animal shelters, dog walking, and dog sitting whilst at university. After I came back home, I found some local shelters to volunteer with and continued dog walking and sitting. Noticing that several of my clients were struggling with their dogs’ behaviour, I began giving them advice and helping them and then this transitioned into me becoming a full-on trainer with some of them, and my career has taken off ever since.

During this time, I have encountered a wide range of dogs with very different temperaments, behavioural issues, and backgrounds.

Working with rescue dogs in particular taught me that many behavioural problems are not simply “bad behaviour,” but the result of confusion, lack of structure, or inconsistent communication.

These experiences shaped the training philosophy that I continue to use today.

Real-World Training That Works

Training doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Dogs need to behave reliably, not just in the house, but in everyday environments filled with distractions.

That’s why my programmes focus on practical, real-world training designed to help owners develop dogs that are calm, responsive, and dependable in daily life.

Whether the goal is resolving behavioural issues or building off-leash reliability, the focus is always on creating results that last.

A Personal Understanding

Like many owners, my own journey with dogs has included challenges.

Working through behavioural issues first-hand reinforced something important: successful training is not just about the dog — it’s about helping owners understand how to guide their dogs clearly and confidently.

This understanding shapes how I work with every client.

My Commitment

Every dog and household is different. That’s why training always begins with a comprehensive assessment, allowing me to understand the unique dynamics at play before building a structured plan for success.

My commitment is to provide clear guidance, honest advice, and practical training that creates lasting change for both dogs and their owners.

My Training Philosophy

At R&M Elite Dog Training, I focus on clarity, structure, and consistency.

Dogs thrive when they clearly understand what is expected of them. Many behavioural problems arise when communication between dog and owner becomes unclear or inconsistent.

My approach focuses on helping owners:

• Establish clear communication with their dog
• Create consistent structure and boundaries
• Develop calm, reliable behaviour in real-world situations
• Build a balanced, respectful relationship with their dog

This is not about quick tricks or temporary fixes. It’s about building a foundation that allows good behaviour to become the norm.

My Journey With Roxy

Like many dog owners, my own journey with training has included challenges.

My dog Roxy experienced several behavioural issues when my family and I rescued her in 2024. These issues required patience, structure, and a deep understanding of canine behaviour to work through successfully. Addressing these challenges reinforced something I had already begun to learn through my work with dogs: lasting change doesn’t come from quick fixes, but from clear communication, consistent structure, and a strong relationship between dog and owner.

Now, having gone through this process, Roxy has become calm, responsive, and completely trustworthy around people, dogs, vehicles — everything. Today, she walks off-lead through public spaces and responds instantly to commands, no matter the distraction.

Roxy isn’t just my dog — she’s my partner, my proof of concept, and my daily reminder of why this work matters.

Working through these challenges with Roxy helped refine the approach I now use with clients. It deepened my understanding of how behavioural problems develop and, more importantly, how they can be resolved through thoughtful, structured training.

Today, that experience continues to shape the way I work with both dogs and their owners.
